The Fall is right around the corner. Prayerfully consider volunteering on Sunday mornings with CM, learn more about upcoming events and meet one of our favorite volunteers!
Children’s Ministry Newsletter- August
We all know that EPC is a transient church. Due to numerous moves and exciting life events we’ve lost TWELVE of our veteran CM volunteers in the last year.
Preparing for the Fall the bad news is we have THREE key vacancies we need filled this Fall. We need to fill these gaps in order to maintain the necessary adult/child ratios keeping our children’s ministry strong and safe. The good news is, this is YOUR opportunity to consider volunteering as a Sunday School Teacher.
It’s a 13 Sunday commitment, broken into 2 rotations of 7 and 6 weeks at a time (you’ll be Fall and Spring or Winter and Summer). Teachers commit to 1 hour per Sunday morning during your rotation, taking your class through an age appropriate lesson plan. Everything from lesson plans to snack and crafts are provided for you.
If any current Teaching Assistants would like to step up to assume greater responsibility in the classroom, these roles would be ideal as you already know the kids and the classroom flow.
All you need is:
12 or 13 hours PER YEAR to commit
a love for children
a love for God’s Word
**If you are a parent with a child(ren) in our program and are not currently serving EPC in any capacity, please strongly consider CM as a place to invest your volunteer time. You will be supporting your child(ren) and making CM the strongest it can be.
1) How long have you volunteered with CM? I think it was the year after we arrived, so since 2013-ish.
2) Why do you like serving with Children’s Ministry? Great question! 😉 I just now realized I have been involved in the Children’s ministry at every church I have ever attended starting at the age of 15 when I was finally old enough to be a teenage assistant in the toddler class at my church growing up. I have always loved playing with kids and seeing them develop. I guess that’s probably why I ended up becoming a child psychologist!
3) Outside of volunteering, what are you passionate about or what occupies your time? Sleep research! I am a super sleep nerd and will chat with anyone willing to talk to me about your own or your child’s sleep. I am seriously passionate about sleep 🙂
4) What’s your favorite insider NYC tip or favorite place in the city to take visitors? We live out in Riverdale and love to take visitors to Wave Hill up here. It is beautiful botanical gardens overlooking the Hudson River, down the road from all the Fieldston Mansions. I think many people (even native NYCers) are surprised that there is a place like Wave Hill within city limits. We love it!
Ellie, even as a busy working mama of two wonderful boys, you make time to volunteer month after month with Children’s Ministry. You are always available to fill in when someone is out or see if there’s any other way you can help with fellow moms and volunteers. Thank you for your sacrificial spirit and the joy and love that oozes out of you. You are a gift to EPC!
