Spring Retreat: Friday, March 29 – Sunday, March 31
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
What is the retreat?
It is a time for our church community to get out of the city together, to sing, eat, laugh, play games and sports, and spend time learning and reflecting on a particular topic. Our retreat is always fun and spiritually nurturing, and connects people in our community like no other single event of the year.
Where is it?
We will return to our usual retreat location, the Tuscarora Inn and Conference Center, in the foothills of the Pocono Mountains. It is in a beautiful natural setting about 1½ hours from New York City.
What is our topic? – The God of Comfort
God sometimes seems distant during times of personal suffering, but it is often in the hard times that we come to know God better than ever before. How do we stay close to God during times of pain? How do we worship and pray honestly while we sorrow? Come learn how the gospel can give us hope and comfort even in (especially in) the hardest moments in life.
Who is our speaker?
David Ellis is pastor of Astoria Community Church (PCA) in Queens. He and his wife, Sobeyda, have four grown children and one grandson. David has an M.Div. from New York Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry from Covenant Theological Seminary. He enjoys running, doing crossword puzzles, and eating popcorn.
