Dec 31, 2017 – Wisdom for 2018

January 9th, 2018

Preacher: Rev. Scott Strickman

Proverbs 6:12-19 (ESV)
12 A worthless person, a wicked man,
    goes about with crooked speech,
13 winks with his eyes, signals with his feet,
    points with his finger,
14 with perverted heart devises evil,
    continually sowing discord;
15 therefore calamity will come upon him suddenly;
    in a moment he will be broken beyond healing.

16 There are six things that the Lord hates,
    seven that are an abomination to him:
17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue,
    and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 a heart that devises wicked plans,
    feet that make haste to run to evil,
19 a false witness who breathes out lies,
    and one who sows discord among brothers.

Prayer of Confession
Our Father in heaven, as we finish 2017 we see your care, provision and patience.  Looking ahead to a new year, we acknowledge we all have a lot of growing to do.  There are many explicit ways we don’t honor you, and we are aware of how we fall short of your standards.  Furthermore, we are not thorough and allow areas of sin to go unrecognized or addressed.  We pray for forgiveness and renewal, and pray for strength to change. Help us to remember your forgiveness and to look ahead with the hope that, with your strength, we can live wisely. Amen.
