Talking About Politics Seminar with Charlie Drew

The prospect of having political conversations at church makes many of us anxious. Why should we risk the conflict? And if we take the risk, how can we do so lovingly and constructively? Charlie Drew believes that the church ought to be the safest place to talk about politics. He also believes that by rising to the challenge we get to be a winsome social surprise in our deeply divided times: we get to draw friends and neighbors to Christ by being the sort of community that sociologists and cynical political pundits cannot explain.

Beginning with the worship service and extending into a workshop that will include lecture, small and large group discussions, private reflection, and prayer, Charlie will help us begin to talk honestly and amicably with each other about politics.

Charlie’s recently published book, Surprised by Community: Republicans and Democrats in the Same Pew, is available in Kindle and paperback formats at Amazon. We recommend that you read the book prior to attending (or at least the intro and first 2 chapters).

The workshop section will be from 2:00pm-4:00pm to allow time for lunch after the worship service.
