Session 3 - The Way of Jesus

Spring Retreat 2022

Session 3

Speaker: Rev. Abe Cho
Retreat Theme: The Way of Jesus

Matthew 13:31-33

31 He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. 32 It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”

33 He told them another parable. “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened.”

Discussion Questions

  1. What is the difference between what Jack Miller used to call "maintenance prayer" and "frontline prayer." If you look at your prayer life, which type of prayer is more common for you? What might you do to begin to grow in "frontline prayer"?

  2. The parable of the mustard seed tells us that the way the Kingdom of God moves forward is not through spectacular, herculean feats, but through small, hidden, humble acts of faithfulness. In what ways is this an encouragement to you right now?

  3. Share one or two ways that you can begin to commit to "praying big, bold prayer" and "doing small, faithful things."
